International Guest Lecturers for IP Master’s Students in Palestinian Universities

A guest lectures on Intellectual property rights was organized by “EU-Project Unit “at An-Najah National University, on 14-16 th February, 2017. The master students from both An-Najah University and Al-Quds University - involved in the master programme in“intellectual property and innovation management” -and the teachers of the programme courses attended the lectures.

The two IP experts assigned by the University of Alicante, Ernesto Cebollero and Rebeca Nieto, participated in the IP guest lecture that was organized by An- Najah National University in the context of the IP Med Project.

Mrs. Rebeca Nieto presented the concept of technology transfer and its relation with patent law.

Her lectures focused on the legal practices regarding technology transfer activities carried out in research centres. In particular, during these three days, relevant IP legislation and real cases were discussed with participants and leading law representatives from An- Najah National University.

In their lecture, Mrs. Rebeca Carracedo and Mr. Ernesto Cebollero stressed the importance and meaning of Intellectual Property, did an overview of IPR, explaining concisely and plainly the rights of an intellectual property owner. They also spoke at length on Patent concepts related to technology transfer, and trademark law. The speakers also shared a few interesting examples and patents filed by the common man.

The students' and teachers found it relevant, as the topics forms an important portion for students', researchers and management professionals.

The lectures introduced students to the main areas of Intellectual Property and examines important Intellectual Property issues. The students were able to discuss Intellectual Property issues with professionals in Intellectual Property from the University of Alicante.

 The lectures aims to provide master students as well as professionals with insight into the field of Intellectual Property and an appreciation of the significant role of Intellectual Property in furthering the economic and technological development, and particularly in promoting innovation.
